Naoyuki Agawa graduated from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University in 1977. Upon graduation, he joined Sony Corporation in Tokyo. While at Sony, he read law at and graduated in 1984 from the Georgetown University Law Center. He worked for the law firms of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Nishimura & Partners between 1987 and 2002 in Washington, D.C. and Tokyo. He is licensed to practice law in New York and Washington, D.C. He joined Keio University as a professor in 1999 teaching American constitutional law and history. He worked as Minister for Public Affairs at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. between 2002 and 2005. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Policy Management between 2007 and 2009. He was appointed Vice President in charge of international affairs at Keio in 2009.
